lol

Can't believe I didn't see that coming...

Haha

This was better than those two animated Titanic movies.

whaaaaaaat, have to watch them!
THANKS!

Nice

Those faces you do get me everytime. I didn't play LA Noire so I probably didn't get alot of the references here, but I still found thise funny and entertaining overall. One thing that irks me though is the lack of inbetweens, the characters are just snapping from one pose to the next. You gettin lazy broseph?

Your stuff was already great before

But the art and animation here is an even further step up in quality. There's not a dull moment here, even when they're simply talking, you go ahead and make they're expressions and lip synching very animated and full of life. You've got your own style and it's great! The gag was good too, although it's a very old and well known joke, still doesn't mean you can't use it yourself.

One thing though, the sound design could use a little improvement. In the menu screen you've got the song playing and it's sets the level we expect the rest of the sound in the flash to play at but when it's starts the guy's voices are pretty quite in comparison. It makes me have to turn my volume up, and then when we get to the village scene it spikes back up to the menu's volume so then I gotta turn it back down. But besides that, this was flawless. Keep animating at this quality!

Wow

Best submission in this round hands down. The art (especially the BG art), animation, and story was all done masterfully. It's so rare for me to say "damn" or "holy shit" while watching an animation on Newgrounds but it happened twice here, once during the water splash animation (you nailed that perfectly), and again when the dragon popped out (great character design and full body animation). And you didn't half ass anything, it was all frame by frame animation, no shortcuts. Even all the "little" things that alot of people don't tend to notice or care about, like the rope animation that responded realistically to his weight and movements, and the water ripples when he was swimming. And the story was great and made me genuinely smile. Most of the time when people try to do "serious" and "touching" animations it's either too sappy and makes me groan or too experimental for me to give a shit. This was just perfect, a wonderful story of innocence.

One little thing though, the audio could of been alot louder. I didn't even know there was music and SFX at first until I heard the dragon roar quitly play through my speakers. So yeah, I had to rewatch with my volume blasted to near max. But that isn't a big enough deal to mark you down for.

Anyways, this was very impressive and I look forward to any future submissions from you. I thought Dave had a sure win with his submission but this is gonna put up one hell of a fight. I don't know where the judges can mark you down on the score cards, this is essentially flawless under all the categories. Good job and good luck in the contest!

gee... i dunno what to say. Thanks so much for that review. Yea I didn't realize the audio was so low, I had the speakers way up to get the more subtle sounds, guess was just an oversight.

It's a pity you didn't finish yours. The animation was great, the angles, the music, the sounds and the set up were splendid! I though the paper texture was nice touch and the scene with the hamster in the sock was terrific.

Holy moly

That was amazing, the animation and the detail were eye popping, and I like your art style! I can't wait to see the rest.

Glad to see this got front paged

When I noticed you didn't get in the daily top 5 I was worried this submission would fall into obscurity and not get the praise it deserves. All of the art, animation, and sound were great, and the atmosphere was perfect. The beautiful background art really helped contribute to the overall grim and mysterious feel of the movie. The story was a little puzzling at first but after a second watch I got it.

He's warned not to take the book but does it anyways.
Get's lost in one of it's spells but continues going deeper.
Meets a monster guard/prisoner, who gives him a key to access something more.
His curiosity continues to get the best of him, and he goes to use the key to access a locked room.
Discovers a mysterious book in the room, opens it, and a bad spell is casted on him.
He's now doomed to being the new prisoner of the cave, and now we know the old 'monster' was really someone other person who, just like him, didn't heed the warnings the book.

I think that's right.

Damn

That was incredible. Great soundtrack, and the art and animation was eye poppingly good, awesome style.

WELL,

I NEVER THOUGHT YOU COULD TOP THE ORIGINAL, BUT YOU WENT AND DID IT.
MAX GILARDI, YOU ARE THE GREATEST.

It was okay

but you need to work on your pacing it felt too long in some areas to too short in others, and your establishing shot lasted forever. The background artwork was really good, but your animation, especially in the beginning, seemed lazy. There was seriously no inbetweens, parts like when his hand is closed then opens when he puts the mail in, there's no middle drawings, it just went from closed to open. But besides that, and the pacing, everything else ranged from at least okay to good.
